I advise you not to wear long sleeves
when you’re going to reach across a table
to help Bud with a router
as you will inevitably knock over your
coffee
which will fall onto your toes
now,
it may not burn
but it will surely be
sticky
and chocolatey
and no longer in your cup
for you to
drink
drink
drink
and talk about dreams
a topic
that has come up
nearly
every day
quite randomly
my friends are
leaving for
Humboldt
next year
who knows how
big of an
exodus
it will be
but it will
be a good
number of the
close ones
with whom good conversations
and thoughts are spun
into the open
round houses
stop circling and
face a direction
I’m glad for
but I’m also sad for
sometimes
leaving
is the
only way
forward
and sometimes you have to
go back to go ahead
and many times
greener
(or oranger)
pastures
aren’t so green
when you’re looking
up close
closer
so much closer
this woman got
a little bit too close today
bitch straight opened my back gate
& waltzed into my garage
like it was some sort of
public establishment.
Apparently I was listening
to music with the
‘bass’
‘too loud’
4 pm
not 4 am
I just stared at her
in disbelief
that anyone would actually do that
just walk into someone else’s
backyard thinking
yes thinking
that would be ok
Then she looked at me
and said
Didn’t I just see you at the store?
wtf?
Sure, lady.
You’re standing,
trespassing in my backyard
and this is something
you want to ask me.
Get the fuck off my property.
a note would have sufficed.
I’m respectful if respected
private
my garage is how
my bedroom as a kid
used to feel
my own world
somewhat in my head
safe
cluttered
forts
flashlights
protected
with wonderful
things to look at
and put together
for hours and hours
only to be taken
apart
and restructured
hours later
such is life
in space
and tendons
a rush
in my ears
look around
check the fans
listen for an engine
in the alley
something
the rush is still here
it waivers and now dripping
I see it now
it’s pouring
pouring
from clear sky
raining
midnight droplets
and
poetry
