Day 1: Lunch at Dragon

Posted By Kelly Orange on September 20, 2008

It`s already Saturday September 20th here, I`ve lost a day…but since it`s September 19th at home we are celebrating international talk like a pirate day here….so I`ll start out with this one….Q: What`s a pirate`s favorite color? A: AAAAARNGE

You love it.

So anyways, aside from that I`ve already taken my shoes off a bunch of times, seen some eagle-sized bats & kamikaze motorbike riders, driven on the wrong side of the road, and eaten Ube (sweet potato ice cream) and some noodles in a gigantic bowl. Everything is Happy here. Happy furniture store, Happy fun beer, happy chopsticks. It`s fun, and really hot & humid. We went and ate lunch at Dragon, and then drove down to the seawall where we saw a whole bunch of dragonflies floating around above our heads, which Nancy says is a sign it`s going to rain, but hopefully it won`t for a little while so we can get out and do stuff. I guess the seawall area has changed a lot because they have built so many “Mansions” or what we would call apartment buildings near the oceanfront. It`s all new to me though, so no matter.

I`m like a japanese tourist here, taking pictures of everything because the translations are so funny. The vending machines are cool too… One of the major department stores we went in had some funny shirts, but it`s hard to find anything that will fit me because the Japanese are so little. I already had an old Okinawan lady come up to me and start laughing and hitting my arm and holding her hand way above her head like I`m some kind of Amazon. It was really kinda weird, but funny. I`m used to people doing a double take because of my hair, but not actually coming up to me and slapping me while laughing and then pointing out my height. Oh, it`s only the begining. So much more to come…. I`m going to come home with loads of goods, there`s so much cool little stuff to buy…..

I`m still learning some of the language, but everyone knows at least a little bit of english so it`s not a big deal, but I`m sure I will come home and continue saying Ari domo, and hi hi a lot… ok gotta go rest up for more happy fun times.
